The Nightmare of 2020

November 3rd was the day of the 2020 election. The most chaotic election ever. You can say it is because of the candidates or because of COVID-19 but this has definitely been tedious. The ballots are still being counted as I am typing this blog. The president has filed many lawsuits in order to stop counting or have ballots recounted.

The memes that have come out in regard to the election are quite hilarious. But it is a very serious matter. For a person of a color this is a very scary election. Over the past four years Trump has given white supremacist groups the courage to practice more publicly than in the past. It has been the most dangerous four years for people of color. If Trump wins this election it might very well start a civil war. People of color will continue to feel unsafe and underrepresented.

Fast forward to November 7, 2020 we have our next president and vice president elect, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This is huge. Not only did these two flip Pennsylvania, but also Georgia. This was a very close race. More people than every came out to vote. It was time for a change.

It is time for the nightmare of the past four years to finally be over. Do I think things are going to change? Yes. But as a black woman I honestly don’t think the change will have much to do with my demographic. Minorities are never a priority when it comes to politics. But I am happy that a woman is finally in office. So now we as women can have a voice of representation when it comes to decisions being made about our bodies. I pray that this new presidency will allow for a change that this country so desperately needs in a time like this.
